The Director of the day, Bob Byham gave the 16 competitors a full days racing setting a total of 22 tests in the wet conditions. Outright winner Matthias Schwarz in the Datroo Special was pushed to the limit by Ken Trimnell in his Mitsubishi Colt. Schwarz with a time of 10:30.24  winning by a measly 0.97 of a second in front of Trimnell finishing on 10:31.21 after the 22 runs. Third outright Philip Wilson 11:57.41 beating Geoff Wilson by 27.98 seconds for the Wilson family bragging rights, this time! Darren Harris, the first of the juniors, finished fifth outright ahead of Brad Walker who brought his Honda TypeR along for the day and thoroughly enjoyed himself. Once some handbrake issues are sorted he will be one to be aware of.

In the V8 stakes Tim Argent reversed the tables of the previous event by beating brother Jason, but only by 12 seconds over the course of the day. Anthony Tos in his Escort took out 9th outright in front of Belinda Spink in her wheel spinning Datsun 180b and Nicole Mc Nally in the Datroo Special. Nicole had some pretty wild spin-outs in the wet conditions and the short wheelbase of the special didn’t help the situation. Relative newcomer Tom Latchford took out 12th outright in his Corona in front of Mitchell Tos in his Escort. Another junior competitor Cameron Paltridge driving his Datsun Stanza just edged out Justin Dennert by 2 seconds.

Justin’s VS commodore proved to be a handful on the tight courses in comparison to Maddi Heenan’s nimble little Datsun 120Y. Maddi is making improvements in her driving style and soon will be advancing up the field, she is also one of the five drivers to end the day with no penalties incurred. The others to end the day penalty free include Schwarz, Trimnell, Harris and Latchford. Bob Byham would like to thank those officials who helped out and ensured the day ran smoothly. The next motorkhana will be round 7 at the Mt Gambier Saleyards on the 31st of August.
