GLENCOE TRAIL

Last Saturday night in perfect weather conditions, the South Eastern Automobile Club conducted “The Glencoe Trail” car trial, over nearly 200km of forest roads in the Glencoe – Mount Burr forest area.

Event Director, Peter Becker, had set an interesting course of fast flowing roads, together with some tight twisty roads & sandy tracks to mix it up.

Spectators were treated to some fast and furious action early, but unusually early high attrition rate meant that less than half the field completed the course.

When time sheets were added up, the Mitsubishi VR4, driven by Paul Heenan & Ken Moore, was only 1 second quicker than the Datsun 180B of Jason Sims & Damien Wilson, but unfortunately for the Sims/Wilson team, they incurred a 30 minute penalty for a technical navigation infringement..

As a result, this left Heenan & Moore the clear winners, & the Datsun 200B driven by Aaron Bowering & Nathan Lowe elevated into 2nd place, with the Toyota Corolla driven by Adam Becker & Dion Becker closely behind in 3rd place.

4th place went to the penalised team of Sims & Wilson.  5th home was the Mitsubishi Sigma of Greg Muller & Matt Pritchard, but unfortunately narrowly missed the cut on late running time. Last car to finish was the famous Datsun 1600 driven by Kevin Millard & Chantel Elford, also out of late running time.

Of the retirees, first out was Bob Brown & Colin Spink with a hole in the radiator on their Falcon following an excursion into the trees. Next out was Nathan Smith & Dee Telford in the V8 Commodore with a gearbox making terminal noises, closely followed Ryan Bell & Graham Bell in their Nissan Bluebird with a diff failure.

Next to retire was Darren Harris & Steve Harris in their debut rally with broken wheel studs, & soon after Darryl Brown & Phil Wilson retired with a blown clutch in their Nissan Skyline.

Making to the last stage before retiring were Adam Branford & Monica Burt in their V8 Commodore, out with a broken engine mount, & James Kerin & Tanya Rassmussen, unable to navigate with a faulty tripmeter.

The club wishes to thank the event sponsor, Becker Tech, for their support.
